Halloween’s Witching Hour: An Invitation to Transformation

Halloween's Invitation to Change

In the moments before midnight on Halloween, the stars extend an invitation for reflection, courage, and the opportunity to level up your life. At this hour, the Sun, Moon, and Mercury reside in deep, mystical Scorpio, with a New Moon offering a portal to change. This alignment makes Halloween not just a night for costumes and revelry but a powerful time to assess our paths and transform our lives.

How Can I Change My Life?

Some problems may seem too big to change. Relationship issues, financial pressures, and health problems can be overwhelming.

I will tell a story about a friend of mine. In 2018, she made a concerted effort to repair her financial situation, which was wildly out of control due to a divorce 8 years prior and a layoff from her corporate job in 2011. Health problems piled on, making it impossible to focus on life issues, let alone work a regular 9-to-5. By securing freelance work and renting rooms in her house, one by one, she attacked the various debts she owed. Finally, she got to the last debt, the city water bill that had gone unpaid for years. She contacted the city to make payment arrangements, upon which the city said they couldn’t do anything without switching to a new meter and reading the old one. They had been estimating the bill all that time. Fine. But when the new bill came, she was shocked to find the water bill increased by over 4,000 dollars. She couldn’t pay that, let alone the past due, and then she discovered that the city did not make payment arrangements. Within two months, she received a foreclosure on her house by the city. And in her state, foreclosures due to water bills cannot be mediated.

There was only one thing to do. To stay the foreclosure and keep her house, she needed to do a Plutonian thing—file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy. She borrowed and begged for the attorney’s fee and thus started a six-year journey to salvage her financial life. During that time, she sold her car, cut expenses to the bone, and lived on a painfully strict budget. She girded her loins, as it were, and paid the hefty monthly bankruptcy payment that took all her disposable income. Finally, she made the last payment, and the bankruptcy was discharged. She kept her house and began to rebuild her credit.

How to Initiate Change

Transformation begins with a courageous step toward introspection. If you’re asking yourself how to initiate change, begin by following these steps:

List the Problems in Your Life—Write down every issue, big or small. Seeing your challenges laid out helps clarify what you’re dealing with.

Pick the Biggest Problem—Among the list, identify the core issue that, if resolved, would have the most significant positive impact on your life.

Make a Plan—Make a realistic plan to address this primary challenge.
Sustainable change requires persistence. Whatever your goal, commit to it daily.
This Balsamic Moon phase encourages shedding old skin, leaving behind past baggage, and preparing for a new cycle. With a Scorpio Sun and Moon, the energy supports intensity, bravery, and resilience — all necessary qualities for real, lasting change.

Challenges to Transformation

Astrology serves as a guide, pointing out both the energies that support us and those that present challenges to our growth. This chart on Halloween presents several key obstacles:

Scorpio’s Fixed Energy and Emotional Depth—With the Sun, Moon, and Mercury in Scorpio, there is an intense fixation on past hurts, unresolved traumas, or hidden fears. This can create emotional resistance to change, as Scorpio’s loyalty to the past can prevent it from easily letting go. Be prepared to confront and release emotional blocks.

Halloween’s Mars in Cancer’s Influences Motivation—Mars, at the critical final degree of Cancer, emphasizes a need for emotional security before you leap toward change. This Mars in Cancer can work against you as it struggles to assert itself by emphasizing your fears and seeking to hold you back. Transformation under this influence requires moving beyond comfort zones, risking vulnerability, and letting go of the need for emotional control.

Jupiter Retrograde in Gemini’s Mental Frustrations—Jupiter retrograde in Gemini calls for reflection on our beliefs, particularly those that keep us mentally scattered or indecisive. While Gemini wants to explore all possibilities, transformation requires clarity and commitment to one path. Strive to focus on one major area of growth, and be disciplined in your attention to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

Saturn and Neptune Retrograde in Pisces’ Dissolution of Boundaries—The retrogrades of Saturn and Neptune in Pisces emphasize the breakdown of old structures, ideals, and boundaries. This is a challenging influence, especially if we have relied heavily on certain beliefs or routines for security. Transformation here means releasing illusions, reimagining our goals, and allowing new dreams to emerge even if it feels unsettling.

Pluto at the Final Degree of Capricorn: The End of an Era—Pluto is nearing the final degree of Capricorn, symbolizing a powerful end to outdated structures in our lives. Whether related to career, authority, or personal power, Pluto demands we let go of rigid attachments to control. Transformation now involves rebuilding from the ground up and embracing a new personal power paradigm.

Aries North Node: The Call to Independence—Both the Mean and True Node sit in early Aries, encouraging a journey toward independence and self-assertion. However, with Chiron also retrograding in Aries, this path can highlight old self-worth and personal identity wounds. Transformation here means healing and embracing a strong, independent sense of self, even if it feels unfamiliar.

Embracing the Journey

The Witching Hour on Halloween is a potent time for self-reflection and rebirth. Under these skies, transformation isn’t a quick fix but a steady and courageous journey. By leaning into Scorpio’s depth, accepting Mars’s call to face our insecurities, and embracing Chiron’s healing in Aries, we can harness this time to shed what no longer serves us and emerge ready to embrace our next chapter.
