Interview with #Venus in #Virgo: Don’t Blow My Glow, Gurl

Image from Deposit Photos

(Astrology Explored Blog) Venus, the goddess of love and money, moved into the Virgo Suite of the Zodiac Hotel on October 3rd, and ever since, there’s been trouble. I got this message from one of my friends on Facebook:

Friend: So is it the stars that are making me feel so off-kilter?

Me: Venus in Virgo—so neurotic!

Friend: Exactly how it feels.

But perception isn’t always reality, so I decided to visit Venus and ask her what’s up.

Beth: (Knock, knock)

In honor of #Sagittarius season: 4 planets in the 9th house?

Note: I wrote this answer on Quora and then said, hey, let’s put this on the blog too.

Astrologer's MailboxWhat does it mean if I have 4 planets in the 9th house: Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars?

I cannot give you a complete answer because I do not have your chart (and please don’t put it up or give me birth info, because I don’t read individual charts on Quora.)

The ninth house rules publishing, teaching, law, and travel. The zodiac sign that rules the 9th house is Sagittarius. Even if your sun is not in Sagittarius, you’ll share many of the attitudes and traits of a Sagittarian individual. You may be gregarious and the life of the party. You may impress many people for no damn reason at all, and know too much for your own good. Endlessly optimistic, you’ve lost more than one lover because of your fearless cheeriness in the morning. Don’t worry. There is always another.

Publishing, teaching, law and/or travel play a prominent role in your life. You may find you end up in more legal troubles than the average person, again for no damn reason other than the Universe seems to have it out for you, or it just wants to test your ability to act as your own lawyer. Remember what they say about who is a fool in this instance.

You’ll be a teacher one way or another. Either you are a teacher, teach some sort of class somewhere or coach kids. You love kids, someone else’s that is. But if and or when you have them you’ll spoil them rotten, much to the consternation of the other parent.

Secretly you dream about being a great writer. However, writing is hard work, so unless you have some grounding elements in your chart, you’d rather have someone else write it. You are the person who walks up to a writer at a party and says, “I have a great idea for a book. Why don’t you write it and we’ll split the profits?” This is why writers drink so often and have lawyers on speed dial.

You love the idea of travel but you may be a poor traveler. However, that doesn’t stop you from dreaming of exotic climes. You love all kinds of maps, even that funky one drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien’s son, Christopher, from Lord of the Rings. You even know that’s who drew the map. Secretly you want to be an elf.

When the Temptations sang “Papa is a rolling stone,” they were talking about you. Hey, at least you’ll gather no moss.

Disclosure: I have two planets in the 9th house, which gives me license to poke fun at people with a prominent ninth house. 🙂

#Astrology Pro Tip: There Is No Thirteenth Zodiac Sign

Sidney_Hall_-_Urania's_Mirror_-_Taurus_Poniatowski,_Serpentarius,_Scutum_Sobiesky,_and_Serpens(Astrology Explored) Oh, god. What do we have to do to get it through peoples heads? I opened my Quora feed this morning to find this:

Now that NASA has re-arranged the zodiac signs, should I go by the ancient Babylonian way or the NASA way? I’m either Gemini or Taurus.

Of course, I answered. And here it is.

NASA has not rearranged the zodiac signs.

They tell you so themselves.

No, what NASA was attempting to do, through a children’s page, (updated January 2016) was to discredit astrology by saying that once upon the time, the Babylonians knew there were thirteen constellations in the zodiac but since it didn’t fit in with their astrology ignored it proving astrology is not a science, is nonsense and should be thoroughly ignored by anyone with a lick a sense.

Which only shows you that NASA should stick to what they know because the Babylonians, whose civilization started about 18th century BCE, (according to astrology antagonistic Wikipedia,) identified 17 to 18 constellations in their zodiac. Continue reading

The #Astrology of the Solar Eclipse/Vernal Equinox: Firebomb!

Image March 20, 2015 Solar Eclipse

March 20, 2015 Solar Eclipse

(Astrology Explored) Sit up and take notice, people!

Oh, no. That’s not me saying that. It’s the Universe.

On the first day of spring 2015 we get the trifecta of lunar events, the new moon, eclipse and Supermoon. Toss in a Vernal Equinox and you get a potent and heady recipe for not just the next few days, but for the next six months.

The start of the eclipse and the actual ingress of the sun in the zodiac sign Aries is separated by 15 hours. At the start of the new moon eclipse the sun is at 29 degrees of Pisces. 29 of any degree is said to be the degree of decision. It is the holding of a breath before you draw in your next. The new moon is the start of a new cycle.

Solar Eclipse March 20 15

The eclipse chart clearly, with a congregation of planets in the eleventh house of the collective, shows the influence of large corporations. In Aries, they want do something. Uranus and Mars together is violence, explosions and general mayhem.

At the Vernal Equinox, when the Sun official enters Aries and the now the stellium sits in the seventh house, the house of open enemies.

Countries that are ruled by Aries include Palestine, England, Germany, Poland, Syria, Israel, Lithuania, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe.

Palestine isn’t our friend, and Israel seems more like a frenemy now instead of an ally. Zimbabwe is in that zone as well, and some threat or danger could come out of there.

A look at the astro*carto*graphy chart of the combination of the Eclipse and Vernal Equinox charts seem to confirm additional troubles at this end of the world. Uranus and Mars, players in the stellium of planets brackets a good portion of the Middle East. Additionally, Pluto, the planet of transformation sits along with the line for Uranus. The #Astrology of Eris: Eris in the Houses

Eris Glyph(Astrology Explored) Eris, the black winged goddess of Strife is a portion of the Sumerian goddess Innana, :

Inanna could be wily and cunning. She was a powerful warrior, who drove a war chariot, drawn by lions

Innanna ruled as a goddess during the dawn of human civlization and not only represented strength in battle, but also:

She endowed the people of Sumer with gifts that inspired and insured their growth as a people and a culture

.

When the patriarchal tribes of Northern Greece over ran the Southern matriarchal tribes all the goddesses, including Eris, suffered a reduction in power and influence as the new patriarchal religious forms supplanted matriarchal forms. Those goddess images that survived with good press, Venus, for instance, morphed from stronger images of War Goddesses, to more docile forms. Eris, as “queen of battle” didn’t translate well into the new dichotomy and therefore became an “outsider” in the patriarchal Greek pantheon.

Eris defines the part of ourselves whose essential nature is as odds with our current cultural norms. This part of us stands against “what everyone does”. With Eris now recognized in our solar system and now part of our developmental path as a species, this is the time for us to recognize that true inner voice that does not bend to the will of the many. We may kick up some discord, but it is for our own good.

The Astrology of Disasters: Missing Malaysia Flight MH 370

(Astrology Explored) According to news reports, around 2:40 AM March 8, 2014, Malaysia Air Flight 370 mysteriously lost contact with air traffic controllers at the Vietnam border and did not arrive at its destination. Of the 239 passengers on board, three were American, including IBM Executive Philip Wood.

Vietnamese air force jets spotted two large oil slicks off the coast of Vietnam but it is not confirmed the oil slicks relates to the missing jet. Meanwhile, authorities found the names of two passengers on board with stolen passports and are investigating whether terrorist activity connects with the disappearance the plane. Malaysian Transport Minister Hishammuddin Hussein said they were looking into all possibilities.

There is also evidence that the plane turned back from its projected course.

Inspectors 10 days earlier found the airplane sound mechanically.

The lack of a radio call “suggests something very sudden and very violent happened,” said William Waldock, who teaches accident investigation at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott, Arizona.

What can astrology tell us about this missing plane? Was it the target of a terrorist attack? Or the victim of mechanical failure? Continue reading

The Astrology of Neptune and Jupiter: Social Perceptions and Personal Addictions

View of Neptune via Triton (Astrology Explored) Bonnie (not her real name) comes to me with a problem. She and her boyfriend ended their relationship six months prior, but she finds her grief at the ending of the relationship has not subsided. Her friends, in fact, have grown tired of listening to her go on about the situation and suggested many times that she move on. The question she wants answered is, “Will we ever get back together?” This is her secret hope and her fervent prayer. After looking to see if such a thing is possible, and seeing that it is less likely than she thought, the challenge becomes helping Bonnie accept a new future. The reason that this is so very difficult is because of how the brain works.

In the middle part of the last century psychologists and psychiatrists held the view that a mentally healthy person had a reasonably good grasp on reality. A mentally healthy person’s perceptions about the world around him or her would align with how things “were.” Then in the 1980’s new research on social perception found out that this wasn’t the case at all. They found that our perceptions are based on “incomplete data gathering, shortcuts, errors and biases.” These errors in perception are called illusions(Taylor and Brown, 1988). These illusions promote three different perceptions that are out of synch with objective reality. The first is that we, all of us, have unrealistically positive views of ourselves. In other words we think we are better people than we are.The second is that we have exaggerated perceptions of personal control, that we direct and control the world around us to a greater degree than is actually true. The third perception we carry is an unrealistic optimism, especially for the future. We believe the future will bring better things and opportunities will get better, despite objective reality. However, far from the negative connotation of the word in general usage, illusions serve a useful and highly adaptive function. They help us navigate reality by shielding us from reality’s most damaging effects. This led to one researcher Robert Rosenthal to declare that “perception is reality.” Interestingly enough, researchers found that the people whose internal reality matches objective reality suffer from depression. In other words, most of us, except the depressed (ruled by Saturn) have fallen off the reality train a long time ago.

The keywords in what is described above are illusion and optimism which are tied into a single psychological process. For an astrologer, illusion and optimism are two different processes, the first being tied to Neptune, the second to Jupiter. But even in our own tradition, Jupiter and Neptune are bound together in a cyclic process described by Dane Rudhyar. In a 166 cycle of conjunctions, with Jupiter moving forward to the next zodiac sign signifying social evolution. Rudhyar says:

Jupiter deals particularly with social-cultural-religious feelings and the expansion that comes to the individual who operates warmly in terms of these feelings, reciprocated (usually) by others, either emotionally (happiness) or in terms of concrete values (wealth)

While Neptune:

is, thus, related to everything that is vast, immeasurable, indefinite, universalistic, but also loose, unfocused, misty, glamorous, unreal, escapist.

Under the dictum, “as above, so below” inherent in us, reflected in the presence of Jupiter and Neptune in the macrocosm, we all have the ability to make our own reality. We frequently do.

The evidence then suggests that we process our perceptions as we see fit and normally this works well. However, when it come to processing a situation where loss is profound and does not resolve itself under the normal grieving process, the situation gets very interesting. The lover (what psychologists call the secure attachment) is gone, but the feelings remains with nothing to anchor to in objective reality. What is left is the shadow side of Jupiter and Neptune. The shadow side of Jupiter is overindulgence; of Neptune delusion. The combination of overindulgence and delusion becomes no less than an addiction.

So it is we see people like Bonnie, asking us if we see any hope for their relationship as desperate as anyone on crack.

Of course, our job as astrologers is not to provide therapy but clarity. In gently defining the problem for the client and sending them to someone who can help them, we do the best thing we can. Hopefully they can release their addiction and come back into the light of the normal process of dismissing reality.

The Astrology of Venus in Scorpio

(Astrology Explored) Venus swings again into the heady sign of Scorpio on September 11. Yes, 9/11. There are no accidents. Venus in this placement sheds the party girl persona of Venus in Libra and gets dark, serious and seriously intense. A relationship starting during this time will test your limits of endurance, plunge the depths of how much you love and take you on a thrill ride that will either scare you or scar you. Oh, yes. It is that dramatic.

The only way to get through this time with your hide intact is to be brutally honest with yourself when you stare into the abyss. If you lie, well . . . you’ve been warned.

To give you more of a background of what Venus in Scorpio means I’m linking you back to my original series of posts on this theme. Featured is the original Mistress of the Dark herself, Persephone, and how her quest illuminates our own in searching the dark and the light.

First, however, a post about her handmaiden, advisor and wing man, Hecate.

Astrologer’s Mailbox: Golden Girl Seeks Career Advice

(Astrology Explored)

Question: I closed my small business 2 years ago and wonder if I’m to find work again or what ?

Birthdate: 9-9-1948
Birth Time: 6:49pm cst
Birth Place: Great Lakes, Illinois

Dear Golden Girl,

I’ll do my best to condense a very complicated situation into a few paragraphs.

When you shed your business two years ago you felt like a weight was lifted off your shoulders. And when your moon progressed into Aries you were perfectly happy to live off the proceeds and do what you wanted. However, you weren’t exactly careful about conserving your resources and when they became a little thin, you took out a loan to continue the lifestyle to which you became accustomed. Now the piper wants payment. Continue reading
