The #Astrology of Anaretic Degrees

fixed stars

(Astrology Explored) Why Is The 29º Of A Planet (the anaretic degree) considered More Than All The Other degrees?

Mercury is retrograde which is my excuse. I have bunches of good astrology articles on Quora that aren’t getting as much love as they should and the WordPress phone app makes it easy to post, so I’m sharing a few here.

Astrologer Anthony Picco asked me the above question on Quora, and pleased as punch I answered it straight away.

Astrologers consider 29 degrees of any sign an anaretic, or critical degree. Actually, there is a broad list of critical degrees, and not just the number 29.

Here is a list critical degrees I got from Cafe Astrology:

Classic critical degrees are as follows:

0, 13, and 26 degrees of the cardinal signs (Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn)

8-9 and 21-22 degrees of fixed signs (Taurus, Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius); and

4 and 17 degrees of mutable signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces).

And then there are 29 degrees which also seems significant. But why? Continue reading

The #Astrology of the Whitmer Kidnapping Conspiracy

Gretchen Whitmer, Governor of Michigan
Governor Gretchen Whitmer

(Astrology Explored) Shockingly, the FBI and the Attorney General of Michigan announced 13 arrests in a conspiracy to kidnap and murder Governor Gretchen Whitmer. The men arrested belong to the militia group Wolverine Watchmen.

The extensive investigation, court documents showed, relied on confidential informants, undercover agents, recorded conversations, text messages and social media, with federal agents detailing what it called a plan to violently overthrow the government, which included a conspiracy to kidnap the governor, take her to Wisconsin and put her on trial for “treason.”

In honor of #Sagittarius season: 4 planets in the 9th house?

Note: I wrote this answer on Quora and then said, hey, let’s put this on the blog too.

Astrologer's MailboxWhat does it mean if I have 4 planets in the 9th house: Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars?

I cannot give you a complete answer because I do not have your chart (and please don’t put it up or give me birth info, because I don’t read individual charts on Quora.)

The ninth house rules publishing, teaching, law, and travel. The zodiac sign that rules the 9th house is Sagittarius. Even if your sun is not in Sagittarius, you’ll share many of the attitudes and traits of a Sagittarian individual. You may be gregarious and the life of the party. You may impress many people for no damn reason at all, and know too much for your own good. Endlessly optimistic, you’ve lost more than one lover because of your fearless cheeriness in the morning. Don’t worry. There is always another.

Publishing, teaching, law and/or travel play a prominent role in your life. You may find you end up in more legal troubles than the average person, again for no damn reason other than the Universe seems to have it out for you, or it just wants to test your ability to act as your own lawyer. Remember what they say about who is a fool in this instance.

You’ll be a teacher one way or another. Either you are a teacher, teach some sort of class somewhere or coach kids. You love kids, someone else’s that is. But if and or when you have them you’ll spoil them rotten, much to the consternation of the other parent.

Secretly you dream about being a great writer. However, writing is hard work, so unless you have some grounding elements in your chart, you’d rather have someone else write it. You are the person who walks up to a writer at a party and says, “I have a great idea for a book. Why don’t you write it and we’ll split the profits?” This is why writers drink so often and have lawyers on speed dial.

You love the idea of travel but you may be a poor traveler. However, that doesn’t stop you from dreaming of exotic climes. You love all kinds of maps, even that funky one drawn by J.R.R. Tolkien’s son, Christopher, from Lord of the Rings. You even know that’s who drew the map. Secretly you want to be an elf.

When the Temptations sang “Papa is a rolling stone,” they were talking about you. Hey, at least you’ll gather no moss.

Disclosure: I have two planets in the 9th house, which gives me license to poke fun at people with a prominent ninth house. 🙂

Astrology and Weather: Nor’easter Bears Down on East Coast

National Weather Service Map Nov 8 Nor'easter

(Astrology Explored) The East Coast, savaged by Hurricane Sandy, is groaning under the announcement that another bad storm, a Nor’easter bears down on them. Though not as powerful as the hurricane, this storm, possibly heavy with precipitation, winds and storm surge has the potential to undo the recovery efforts of this area. Continue reading

The Astrology of Hurricane Issac

Predicted Path of Issac as of 8/31/2012

Predicted Path of Issac as of 8/31/2012

(Astrology Explored) Seven years after Hurricane Katrina, Hurricane Isaac revisited the miseries of extreme weather on Mississippi. While the new levees of New Orléans held, residents in Plaquemines Parish weren’t so lucky as a gulf side levee broke filling the area between levees with fourteen feet of water.

It pummeled the Mississippi Coast with relentless roundhouse jabs, while pinning southern Louisiana under a saturating rainfall. On its crawl up from the coast, Isaac dumped more than a foot of rain in some places and shoved before it a violent storm surge that would soon bring back the terrible old images of 2005 . . .

Now downgraded to a tropical depression the path of Issac has turned north and east. It The storm is projected to eventually peter out over the heavily populated Ohio Valley and the western areas of Virginia and North Carolina.

Astrologically, hurricanes are ruled by Uranus, rain by the Moon and Neptune. All three planets are represented prominently in the charts of Hurricane Issac.

The first chart we look at (below) is the date of landfall in the United States using the capital of the United States, Washington D.C. as a reference to represent the entire nation. Here Pisces is the zodiac sign on the on the ascendant, with its ruler, Neptune within 7 degrees of it. Chiron. the planet of wounds, sits on top of the ascendant. This is a rain destined to do damage.

In opposition to the Neptune/Chiron combination is the Sun in Virgo loosely conjunct to Mercury in Leo.

Astro*Carto*Graphy maps reveals some fascinating synchronicities. Using the capital of the United States for our first chart of the U.S. landfall day, we see that the Uranus line crosses the Lesser Antilles.

The path of storm continued from there crossing the lines of the Sun, Chiron, Neptune and finally Mercury, where Issac made landfall.

Switching to the natal chart for landfall, using the actual location of landfall, Aquarius, ruled by the planet of hurricanes, Uranus is on the ascendant. The moon is also in the sign of Aquarius. This when Isaac turned from a tropical depression to a hurricane.

Now Issac turns its path to cross those Sun, Chiron and Neptune lines again.

The Astrology of Accidents: Mars Says “Let’s Do It Again!”

Anatomy of a knee (Astrology Explored) Regular readers are familiar with my thread “Tales of Mercury Retrograde” in which I recount the various and often funny tales of what happens when the planet closest to the sun temporarily loses its lead position to the earth.

Computer and car mishaps are common fodder for Mecury Rx high jinx, less often are accidents, unless of course it hooks up with other planets.

Eileen Nauman, medical astrologer wrote on her FB book a few weeks ago as Mercury was about to go direct:

THE DOWNSIDE of Mercury direct on 4.4 at 23 Pisces, Pluto retrograde at 9 Capricorn and Mars direct at 3 Virgo. I’ve already posted the “up” side of this combo of planets. Now, for the dark side. Hope it don’t come true, but astrology is a forecasting tool, so here goes. Accidents of all kinds and types are in the air from 4.2 through 4.16. With Mars in the mix, it is tendons, ligaments and muscle injuries. And these won’t be acute accidents. If you injure yourself in any way during this period, it can mean a long rehab and could turn chronic on you. Car/airplane accidents, tripping, falling, etc., are in the air for all signs.

Astrology and the Lottery: Will Mega Millions Drop the Dime?

(Astrology Explored)–The upcoming Mega Millions drawing this coming Tuesday, March 27 2012 is at $356 millions dollars, if won, the second largest jackpot in the mulit-state lottery’s history. The question remains though if six magic numbers are going to match anyone’s ticket.

In a previous post, this astrologer explored the chart of the Mega Millions game and found that when Mega’s natal Uranus gets hit, the jackpot drops. This upcoming Tuesday’s transits set for 11:00 PM, Lawrenceville, NJ doesn’t have hard and fast transits that might release millions of dollars to some lucky winner or winners. Continue reading

Mars Retrograde: Just What Are You Doing Down There?

Marilyn Monroe The True Story (Astrology Explored) Newscaster: Mars stations in Virgo on the day of the Aquarian New Moon. Many astrologers have posted their take on this combo, but Astrology Media Press thought to ask the planets themselves, “What does it all mean?”

I am here at the celestial home of Venus, the goddess of beauty and Mars, the god of war. . .

Venus: (dressed as Marilyn Monroe speaking little breathlessly) And sex, don’t forget that he is the god of sex.

Newscaster: Yes, well this is a family show. (changing subject) I love what you are wearing.

Venus: Thank you. I am in the zodiac sign of Pisces right now.

Newscaster: And where is the man of the hour, Mars?

Venus: Um, yes. (Looks around over her shoulder).

Venus: Just where is he now? (Goes to doorway where there are stairs that leads down.)

Venus: (sweetly) Honey, are you down there?

Voice from basement: What?

Venus: (exasperated and in the breathless Marilyn voice) So sorry. He did know you were coming.

Venus: (shouting down the stairs again) Mars! The news people are here!

Mars: (from basement) What? I thought that was Thursday. Look I’m a little busy down here with Uranus.

Venus: (rolls her eyes. There is a knock at the door.)

Venus: Sorry! (rushes off to the door and finds Pluto at the door)

Pluto: Hey, sexy. (Steals a kiss) Where’s your man?

Venus: (flustered) This isn’t a good time. We’ve got a news interview.

Pluto: Really? (Pushes his way past Venus).  I bet he’s in that old man cave of his. Has Uranus gotten here yet? (Pluto heads down the stairs)

Venus: (stamps her feet) Now really! (Catches herself and looks sheepish)

Venus: (to newscaster) So sorry. He IS stationed right now. He tends to become focused on one thing when he stations and he IS in the zodiac sign of Virgo, so he is zeroed in on the minutia of what he is doing. (goes to stairs again.)

Venus: (shouting louder) Honey! The news people are waiting for you!

Mars: (shouting up the stairs) Just a minute! We are going over last year’s facts and figures! We’ve just got to get it right this time!

Venus: (perplexed) Last year? Honey, this is no time to do the taxes!

Various voices from the basement: Yeah! That’s right! We’ll do that again! That will show them! Good job! Be careful with that!

Newscaster: (counting on his fingers and growing alarmed) Mars, Uranus, Pluto. Isn’t it almost a year from when the Fukushima power plants exploded?

Venus: (absently, still staring down the basement steps) I suppose. (raises her voice in annoyance) Mars!

Sounds of footsteps on the stairs. Mars makes his appearance.

Mars: (Shakes newscaster hand) Hello, good to see you. I hope the little woman here (gives her affectionate squeeze a little too hard) has been making you comfortable. Caught me in the middle of a meeting. Lot’s of things coming up! Thinks are going to shake, rattle and roll! My friend Uranus will see to that. Pluto will help too. But we are still working on the details. Get in touch with my boy, Mercury, he handles communications . . .say around January 28, when he meets up with the Aquarius’ new moon point, when he’s at 2 degrees of Aquarius. All the details will come out then. Uranus rules Aquarius, don’t you know. Actually, Saturn used to rule Aquarius, but when Uranus came around, he was MORE than happy to share the work.

(Rumbling sounds come from the basement, Venus looks worried).

Mars: Oops! Got to go! (He bounds down the stairs again)

Venus: Oops? What the . . (She shouts down the stairs like a fishwife) Mars! What are you doing down there. You better not leave a mess for me to clean up!

Mars: (calling up the stairs) Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’ll take care of it.

Venus: (turning to newscaster, exasperated) As if he ever does.

Newscaster: (to audience smiling broadly) So there you have it folks. Expect some exciting things coming your way!

The Astrology of Disasters: Tornadoes and Mundane Astrology

United States Map for May 22, 2011

Tornado Alley defined by the planets

(Astrology Explored) For an area of the United States that is known as tornado alley, the fierceness of May 22nd’s tornado shocked the residents of Joplin Missouri. Even with a 20 minute warning over a hundred people died. This twister ripped a path of destruction 1 mile wide, leaving the regional hospital in tatters.

In mundane astrology, the astrology of places and events, astrologers attempt to pinpoint the location and source of likely problems. We know that certain regions of this country are likely to suffer from weather problems such as mudslides and wildfires in California, severe winter storms in the Northeast. “When”, “where”, and “how severe” are important questions that occupy a mundane astrologer.

If we look at an Astro*Carto*Graphy map of the United States, for May 22, 2011, set for our nation’s capital we see that most of the area that is called Tornado Alley, is bounded by Neptune on the right and Mercury on the left. Thus the elements of a tornado, water (Neptune in Pisces) and air (Mercury which is ruled by air sign Gemini) bound either side of this sensitive area. If you look at the chart of NOAA chart of the United States, you will see that the vast majority of the tornados that occurred on this date are within those boundaries. Continue reading
