The Practicing Astrologer: Working Within Context

cosmic-eyeA couple years ago, I worked a popular psychic hotline as an astrologer. One of the things that struck me about my clients was their expectation that in a psychic version of a Zipless F***k, (read your Erica Jong, will ya?) I would know everything about them.

Now as astrologers go, I think I’m pretty good, but there was no way that I was going to know EVERYTHING through the horoscope. There is just too much variation in expression of the energies of the planets. Someone’s Moon square Uranus square Mars is just a bad day at the office while another’s is the day her boyfriend beats the beejeezus out of her.

Even now, sometimes it seems to shock clients when I ask about their job or their marital status. Hey, it’s their dime, but things move along much more quickly and we can get farther when I have some context to work with.

As an example of how context can help in an interpretation, let’s take a look at the composite chart I did of Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg. One of the striking features of the chart is the inconjunct from Uranus in the twelfth house to the Sun which is part of a stellium of planet including Mercury and Chiron. This stellium is loosely sextile the Moon/Neptune combo. In the composite chart the Sun represents the man (usually) and the Moon, the woman (usually).

The twelfth house is packed with all sorts of symbolism. What then does the Uranus in the twelfth inconjunct the Sun mean? The Sun sitting alongside Chiron indicates a wound in the vitality of the Sun. Does it mean that illness has the man in an out of hospitals? Does it mean that the guy has mental health issues? Does it mean that there is some issue with religion and spirituality that affects the relationship? My days at Syracuse University taught me that while some Jews may date non-Jews, my Jewish girlfriends told me the family pressure is to marry within the religion. Was this the issue between Spielberg and Capshaw? I remembered that Capshaw converted to Judaism before her marriage to Spielberg *. Was this indicative of pressure from Spielberg and/or his family?

As it turns out, no. Here internet research was helpful to frame the context. Spielberg was born an Orthodox Jew, but his family didn’t practice the religion outside of attending some temple and lighting candles on Saturday. His family purposely didn’t make a big deal of Capshaw converting “to show it didn’t matter to them.” However, when Capshaw gave him a son, suddenly a desire to explore his Jewish roots and religion made sense to to Spielberg. Capshaw made a preemptive move to ensure family cohesiveness through a shared religion, preparing the way for Spielberg to rediscover his own roots. This then, out of all the possibilities, was the meaning of the Uranus in the twelfth and the connections to the planets as described.

For astrologers: Do you feel the need to elicit some information from your clients and if you do, how do you handle it?

For everyone else: How do you feel about astrologers asking you for some information during a reading?

Note: Aquarians, while lacking the ability to remember to put the laundry from the washer to the dryer will remember decades old trivia without any trouble.

Relationship Astrology: Uranus & Establishing A Pair As A Couple

come-together-smallDisruptive Uranus is not thought of as a romantic planet, a planet of unity or a planet that has a part in establishing a relationship. Yet, an important task in establishing a happy marriage is to ”separate from one parents and establish a home.” Separation is a Uranus function as this planet presides over all manner of separations from teenage rebellion to divorces. Even older adults who have established themselves in the world, when they form a new love relationship are subject to the workings of Uranus.

Uranus at its core is about finding our individuality and our gifts stemming from it and using those for the betterment of the collective. Whether your collective is a playgroup or a workgroup hardly matters. If you are part of something that is more than one you are part of a collective.

In a relationship, whether we want to our not, our role changes and expands, bringing us more reassurances, more joys, but also more duties and responsibilities. It is Uranus that helps us dig deep into ourselves that helps us separate from our old notions of ourselves to satisfy the new demands of the relationship.

Jody and Steven Forrest in their book, ‘Skymates: The Astrology of Love, Sex and Intimacy” talk about the synastry of Uranus and how that planet in aspect to planets of the other partner in the relationship unlocks different aspects of each other. They say:

In intimacy, uranzation is a giddy feeling, not for the fainthearted. The rug is pulled out from under the uranized planet. Everything is questioned. Idols fall. Comforting certainties evaporate. A voice exhorts us, “Don’t follow leaders!”

So the fluttering of our hearts in the beginning stages of a relationship is not just about the influx of hormones to our systems, but the dawning and scary realization that everything we know is about to change. Uranus brings about the sense of peering over the brink of the precipice and taking the leap of faith that we will survive taking that step over edge and into the formation of a couple.

The composite chart, the chart of the midpoints of the planets of both parties is especially revealing in how Uranus acts in our relationships.

For instance, in the composite chart of Kate Capshaw and Steven Spielberg, we see Uranus in the twelfth house inconjunct the composite Sun, which is sextile, the composite Moon. The Sun, of course, represents Speilberg, while the Moon signifies Capshaw. Uranus sitting in the twelfth talks about deep inner issues, one of them being religion. The composite Sun shows stress to extremes about this issue. His own upbringing as Jewish was marked by his mother’s decision to raise the family in non-Jewish neighborhoods, leaving the young Spielberg the odd boy out in the neighborhood. His memories as growing up Jewish was more cultural than observant. “ . . . he remembers that when the family moved from New Jersey to Scottsdale, they stopped keeping kosher for no particular reason.”

Capshaw was raised Episcopalian, (some sources say Methodist) and she may have flirted with Scientology at one time.

[Kate] Capshaw converted to Judaism before the marriage [to Steven Spielberg], she said, “because I liked the religion’s emphasis on family, and I wanted my child to born a Jew. When I converted, Steven was delighted, but then all the people in his family who were supposed to fall to their knees in exultation didn’t say a word, because they so wanted me to know that it didn’t matter to them.”

The decision to do so proved prescient in a sense because Spielberg remembers:

When my son was born, it greatly affected me. I decided I wanted my kids raised Jewish, as I was. I have wonderful memories of my Judaism when I was a child–not a teenager, but a child,”

Thus this twelfth house composite Uranus helped this pair to establish themselves as a base of a family through a shared religion. It helped both to resolve inner conflicts over religion thus helping them to grow as individuals and as a couple.

Weekly Astrology Forecast: All the Wrong Sorts of People

grrrrAstrology for the week of November 13 to November 19

Whenever Venus goes into Scorpio I remember what my astrology teacher told our class about Venus in Scorpio people. With a sigh she said, “They tend to love the wrong person, every time.

Like Venus in Capricorn, the folks born with Venus in Scorpio tend to be a bit mixed up about what should happen in a love relationship. The driving intensity of the Scorpio dichotomy overtakes sense and reason, and when their buttons are hit they are fully engaged. That the relationship takes them “to hell and back again” hardly matters. Merely being in love is not enough. They need to feel the earth shaking passion of total immersion and connection with the Universe. And dear Lord, if they don’t get it, they turn colder than an Artic wave front freezing you out as if you did something wrong. In a strange off hand way, Venus in Scorpio knows there is something wonky in their make-up. Maybe that’s why they chose people who they can safely discard, people who are unavailable or who will ultimately disappoint them. Despite what traditional astrological texts say, it is not about the sex. It is about playing “chicken” with the Universe, and Scorpio is not the one that backs-off.

Venus is in Scorpio now and challenges Mars, which represents your sex drive, lovers and ships passing in the night. Get the picture? The siren call of the unavailable or unsuitable lover goes out, and those that are susceptible follow its lure putting us in touch with all the wrong sorts of people.

Aries—What you see is not what you get, Aries. If you want to make love last, you are going to have to work on more than pouting if your honey isn’t paying attention to you.

Taurus—You want to solidify your partnership with your significant other. Your SO wants to twists the sheets. If you withhold affection to make a point, you’ll find yourself on the outside looking in. Be safe and don’t play games.

Gemini—It’s fun and games for the weekend, but the beginning of the week takes a more serious turn. People seem to speak in riddles. What’s up with that?

Cancer—When family members go off to play without you on the weekend you pout. But it does give you some alone time to sort out some things for yourself. Try new solutions for old problems for the best results.

Leo—New ideas pop out of nowhere. This is normally a good thing, but you are trying to wrap up the project, not rework it. Slow down and ask other people their opinion.

Virgo—Tempted as you are by sinful desires, whether it be the hottie by the water cooler rich imported chocolate, you know it is best to abstain. If you don’t, it will be like having a bag of potato chips in hand. Can you have only just one?

Libra—Serious changes are due for lovely Libra. Though you ‘d rather play, a potent Saturn challenge to Pluto increases your responsibilities significantly. Mars helps you to keep up your energy level so you can keep on top of things.

Scorpio—In following your hearts desire, you are apt to overstep your mission parameters, Scorpion. If I told you to be careful, would you listen?

Sagittarius—Mercury has just popped into your sign, making you even more talkative than usual. How can you top your daily verbal acrobatics? By applying your questing mind to find solutions to business projects. Now, get to work!

Capricorn—Distractions and difficulties cloud your direction. At this time you should be preparing to move on, but while the plan is in place, you are not. Plan a short trip to clear your head.

Aquarius—Other people fail to inform you of their plans, then expect you to jump when they are ready. If you don’t you are made out to be the difficult one. Count to ten, many times.

Pisces—You are ready to walk on the dark side when temptation beckons. However, this is not a good time to start something new. Yearning glances will just have to do for now.

The Astrology of the Fort Hood Killings: The Enemy Among Us?

shooterIn a shocking and inexplicable incident that claimed the lives of 13 and threatens to claim some the lives of 38 others wounded, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, a U. S. Army psychiatrist, opened fire on his fellow soldiers. The November 5, 2009 mass murder took place at a readiness center at Fort Hood, Texas, where a crowd was gathered to witness graduation exercises for some of the soldiers.

Col. Kimberly Kesling, deputy commander of clinical services at Darnall Army Medical Center at Fort Hood, said she had known Hasan.
“You wouldn’t think that someone who works in your facility and provided excellent care for his patients, which he did, could do something like this,” Kesling said. She described him as “a quiet man who wouldn’t seek the limelight” and said she was shocked when she heard he was the suspect in the shootings.

Was this a expression of faith as some had surmised about this deeply religious Muslim, or was this an act of a deeply disturbed individual?

What can astrology and his horoscope tell us about this man?

Nidal Malik Hasan was born on September 6, 1970, in Arlington, VA. The son of Palestinian immigrants he:

attended William Fleming High School in Roanoke, Virginia.[31] He joined the army immediately after high school and served 8 years as enlisted soldier while attending college. Hasan graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry and went on to medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.[32] After earning his medical degree (M.D.) in 2001, he completed his residency in psychiatry at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.[33] In 2009, he completed a fellowship in Disaster and Preventive Psychiatry at the Center for Traumatic Stress.[34

His aunt had reported to reporters that Hasan was distressed about what he perceived as harassment about his Muslim faith and that for a number of years he had been seeking to pay the Army back for his education and get a discharge. Other reports portray him as a man for whom the army was his life. Though he was slated for deployment no official date apparently had been set. Nonetheless, two weeks ago he gave notice to his landlord he was leaving and he said his goodbyes to friends, giving away belongings and making final arrangements to have his apartment cleaned. In retrospect, all this seems like acts of person who is planning his suicide.

Hasan’s facial features resemble so closely his many planets in the zodiac sign of Virgo it is hard to tell if his ascendant is Virgo as well. However the sunrise chart fits his stated personality well. With many planets in Virgo, he would naturally be drawn to a helping profession, and if he did indeed have a twelfth house sun, it would explain an interest in the psychological workings of the mind. His work would be careful and precise, and with his Sun in harmonious energetic connection with the planet of work and responsibility, he would be a hard worker as well. What stands out is his Sun and Mars in stress aspect (inconjunct) to the planet of wounds difficult to heal, Chiron which in the sunrise chart is tenanted in the eighth house, traditionally associated with death. It is reported the Hasan became more committed to his faith after his parents’ death. Can it be that his parents death opened a chronic wound that he was unable to reconcile in his mind?

With his strong Virgo sense of perfection and his Libra in the justice minded zodiac sign of Libra, he would have a strong sense of right and wrong. Couple that with a probable Moon in the zodiac sign of Scorpio, he would have fixed ideas of what should happen, ideas that could be at odds with the realities of his world.

Notice that this moon is opposite the planet of restrictions and duties, Saturn, which is in the zodiac sign of Taurus. The Taurus/Scorpio axis is a difficult one to master, one that pits three dimensional reality against the surreal impressions of the Universe that bombards the Scorpio Moon person. Though all his earth sign Virgo planets should have helped ground that Scorpio Moon, a challenge aspect from the Moon’s neighbor Neptune, the planet of delusions to Mars which is inconjunct Chiron, upset that apple cart.

Chillingly, two weeks ago, when he gave notice to his landlord he was quitting his apartment, the Saturn/Uranus opposition sat on his natal Pluto in Virgo at 29 degrees, the anarectic degree of decision. It seems that in his mind the only way he could break free of the chains of this life was to sever them altogether. It is entirely possible that he confused his devotion with God with a desire to release those chains and an extremist view of self-sacrifice to justify an action that he would intellectually know was wrong. It appears that the enemy among us was what many of us have faced, the difficulties in reconciling the realities of this world with our inner view of how the world should work.

Update: As Funkstar pointed out in the comment below and Chris Brennan to another astrologer there is a posting of an army record on My Space Astrology discussions that lists Hasan’s birthdate as September 8 not 6 as reported by Wikipedia.

Aside from the Moon moving forward, not much else has changed in terms of aspects to each other. The Saturn/Neptune opposition seems to stand alone, but it is still in challenge aspect (square) to the personal planet Mars, so the observation about the Scorpio/Taurus axis stands. Chiron in the new sunrise chart is in the seventh, but so close to the eighth house cusp, that without a birth time, we can not be sure its not there anyway.

The progressed chart on the event date is tantalizing as well. Some astrologers like to read the progressed chart as a stand alone, though again without a birth time still leaves some information open to question, especially the position of the moon. With all this being said, in the progressed chart, the Taurus moon is the apex of a Yod between Pluto and Venus signaling difficulties in transforming his value system. It is an aspect of someone feeling the call of destiny. The trigger appears to be transiting Sun and Mercury in Scorpio, again highlighting the difficulty in handling the Taurus/Scorpio axis.

Your thoughts?

Weekly Astrology Forecast: Significant Transformations

transformation2Astrology for the Week of November 6 to November 12, 2009. This week starts out under the haze of a lazy Venus trine to Neptune and Jupiter, but it hides the underlying powder keg of a T-Square from the moon to Saturn to Pluto to the moon again. Saturn, of course, is still in tension aspect (opposition) to Uranus. Not only we will be living with the Uranus/Saturn opposition most of 2010 but we will be living with a T-square shadowing our intimate and familial relationships. T-Squares highlight these most important aspects of our lives, forcing us to examine our behavior and make changes either to improve the relationship or break away from it. The “empty leg” of this T-Square is the Aries point, representing new life and new growth. The Cardinal nature of this T-Square demands action. Each of the Cardinal signs demands the right to take action within their sphere of influence. Aries wants to lead, Cancer wants to rule the home, Libra wants to influence the social sphere, and Capricorn wants to command the public arena. It is also important to remind you that each of these points signify significant changes in how the light of the Sun affects the activity of those tenanted on Planet Earth. Each of these points are Solstice points marking the passage of the Sun from symbolic birth, growth and symbolic death. Significant transformations await us in the coming year, and for many of us, it is in the area of personal relationships.

Aries—Money pressures mount under the opposition of your Sun to Venus, with those being born in April feeling the brunt of this. Soon a decision is going to have to be made in the handling of your finances, and you are going to have to go one way or another rather than straddling the fence as you’ve been doing.

Taurus—You really, really hate secrets, though it seems like the Universe is aligned against to keep its own and share yours with the world. You should tread lightly this week as the pressure to act is pressure to act impulsively, and this you must avoid.

Gemini—Riding high on your exuberance for life you are apt to go overboard in the expense department. Nothing makes Gemini happier than to spread the wealth, but unfortunately your sense of wealth outweighs the realities of your checkbook. Hide your credit cards.

Cancer—Constrained and overwhelmed with your responsibilities you know something has to give. What is it going to be Cancer, letting go of some of those must do’s or collapsing in the bed from exhaustion? Your choice, but the former is better than the latter.

Leo—Aren’t you the Energizer Bunny this week? Your “two thousand and two things to do” list seems to grow and you drive yourself frantic trying to accomplish all those tasks. Rome wasn’t built in a day, dear Leo, but it did manage to desintengrate fairly quickly once the limits of that civilization’s ability to sustain itself was reached. Take time to nurture yourself.

Virgo—Hah! Now that Saturn has moved off your sign you think the pressure is off of you! Wrong! You are forced to deal with the erratic actions of your family, from them failing to eat their breakfast to leaving their shoes, underwear and backpacks all over the house. A call to order is necessary.

Libra—Saturn has come to visit you, dear Libra, and while its wisdom seems dubious at first, eventually you will emerge stronger and more confident of your abilities. That’s the good news. The bad news is Saturn has come to live with you dear Libra.

Scorpio—Your personal motto this week is “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” meaning that if someone asks you aren’t talking anyway. It would help you to talk over your feelings with someone you trust, but who exactly would that be?

Sagittarius—I said last week you shouldn’t take shortcuts, but you didn’t listen then. Listen now. We all know how warm and wonderful you are, Sag, and we love you for it, but sometimes you just have to walk the talk. Do so for your own sake, if not for ours.

Capricorn—As constricted as you feel by your present circumstances you know that you have to wait before you take action. One of your strong points is persistence, and this you must apply this week in the face of impossible demands. Stay strong.

Aquarius—At least you can say that this year wasn’t as bad for you as some folks you know. This is more of victory than you realize. The Universe does not intend to pound you into the ground, but a tension aspect from the planet of action keeps bringing aggressive people into your sphere. Keep your cool and your wits about you for the next few weeks.

Pisces—Somehow someone has sucked you into some grand social scheme. Whether it is organizing a bake sale or the United Way drive or the company Christmas party, “tag, your it!” is the motto of the day. There is no way to say “no” without looking like you are shirking you social duties, so suck it up and do it. Don’t let details hang in midair.

Relationship Astrology: Planets Rule In Lasting Relationships

Love Birds

Love Birds

Judith Wallerstein in her 1995 book “The Good Marriage” proposed that there are nine sequential developmental tasks in building a lasting relationship. Looking over the list it was hard not to find a correlation between the planets and the developmental tasks at hand. There were some surprises in the list. Mercury for instance is not generally considered a “relationship” planet, and yet it has an important task in the formation of a lasting relationship. The first one on the list is a surprise as well. Let’s take a look at these tasks and the planet to which they correspond:

1.) Separating emotionally from the family of origin and investing in the marriage. Uranus is the planet that rules this function as it is the planet of forming a separate identity.

2.) Building togetherness while maintaining individual autonomy. This task is about supporting the values of the individuals within the relationship. Venus, the planet of love, is also about our value systems, so a well aspected Venus in the composite chart goes a long way towards showing how we value our partners values.

3.) Becoming a parent—Procreation is about expanding the family. Since Jupiter is all about expansion, it is a natural to rule this developemental task.

4.) Effectively managing the inevitable crises of life—Crisis for growth is a function of Pluto.

5.) Building within the relationship a sense of safety for the expression of differences and conflict—Saturn while traditionally considered the planet of restrictions and limitations is also about building structures for safely navigating the world.

6.) Maintaining a loving sexual relationship—Mars, and for obvious reasons.

7.) Applying humor in appropriate ways and keeping the relationship interesting-Intellectual stimulation is a key ingrediant for keeping things lively in a relationship. While Mercury is about the thinking processes, it has a more important function then we’ve recognized so far as explained in this post here.

8.) Creating an atmosphere conducive to nurturance, comforting an encouragement, and vulnerability—The Moon rules all these functions.

9.) Preserving the early relationship idealizations while simultaneously accepting the realities that presently exist.—As much as Neptune is about our illusions in life, it is also about our ideals. Our sense of ourselves is in part wrapped with certain illusions and ideals, and we would find it difficult to navigate the world without them.

The Astrology of Money: Nicolas Cage–Earns Millions, Has No Money

cagepixWith charges of fraud and incompetence, Nicolas Cage sued his former money manager, Samuel Levin, filing the papers on October 16, 2009. Cage got wind that something was up when the IRS claimed he owed an additional 1.8 million dollars in back income taxes and penalties. In February of 2008 he sued the IRS, questioning their claim, but in September of 2008 he settled with the IRS for about half of what they were asking. Unfortunately for Cage, this did not end the matter with the IRS and they came back with additional claims for unpaid taxes to the tune of 6.6 million dollars. In September of 2008 he retained other financial counseling services, and apparently learned the extent of his deep financial troubles.

From the documents filed in his lawsuit against his money manager:

“Defendants engaged in the following grossly negligent conduct:

(a) Failed timely payment of taxes on behalf of plaintiff for several years . .
(b) Concealing Plaintiff’s true financial condition prior to investments and assets being acquired by the Plaintiff . . .
(c) Recommending and facilitating Plaintiff’s investments in exceedingly risky and speculative real estate transactions without disclosing the risks . . .
(d) Recommending that Plaintiff executer personal guarantees on bank loans without advising Plaintiff of the associated risk . . .
(e) Failing to diversify Plaintiff’s investment holdings . . .
(f) Failing to obtain adequate insurance coverage for real estate and other holdings
(g) Over extending Plaintiff’s lines of credit with banks and financial institutions as a result of failing to disclose to Plaintiff of his true financial condition”

The list goes on with charges of overcharging Cage for services rendered, failure to disclose and gross incompetence.

The research has failed to come up with a total of Nicolas Cage’s earnings as an actor though Forbes estimates his earnings in 2008 and 2009 to be 38 million dollars.

Cage had acquired a number of real estate holdings including a Bavarian Castle, and mansions in Rhode Island, New Orleans, and two homes in Los Angeles one of them on which he has a 350 million dollar mortgage. He also owns a private jet. When you quickly run the numbers you get the gist of Cage’s problems. He has far too much real estate bought at the top of a market that has plummeted. Strange as it may seem, he holds far too much mortgage (!) debt for his earning capacity. This is speculation here, but in trying to keep up with these payments, his money manager seems to have neglected other expenses, like insurance payments and taxes. He also filed questionable deductions to make Cage’s tax bite smaller. Unfortunately for Cage, this left him open to audits of his taxes going back three years from the date a return is filed.

Cage sold his Bavarian Castle to his German advisor, and is the process of selling his New Orleans and 350 million Los Angeles property. However, in a down market like this he won’t be able to sell them for the money he paid. Even selling off his property is not going to help him with the 6.6 million in back taxes he owes or with his mortgage problems with the banks.

So what in Nicolas Cage’s astrological money profile has led the multi-million dollar earning actor in such a sad state of affairs. Let’s take a look at his horoscope.

Nicholas Cage was born January 7, 1964 at 5:30 AM PST, Long Beach, California. This information is given a AA rating, from the birth certificate, according to Astro’s Astrodata Bank so we can use the entire chart for our analysis.

When we look at money, we look first to the second house which for Cage is in the zodiac sign of Aquarius. This is not a good placement for a money house, since Aquarius tends to have lots of ideas, but often doesn’t think critically of the long term consequences. For planets, both Venus and Saturn are tenanted here, which should confer the ability to acquire and save money. Saturn in the second house would normally lend a conservative bent to money management. Items of lasting value, like real estate, would appeal to him for investment purposes. However, a challenge aspect from Venus and Saturn to Neptune leads to unrealistic expectations when it comes to money. One can imagine that Cage thinks, “well I earn 20 million a year, I can buy whatever I want.” But that isn’t true. When one of your homes costs you a million a month, and you have a private jet to pay for, expenses start getting a little tight.

As transiting Neptune challenged natal Neptune the fly in the financial ointment was hinted at. As Chiron came to swing over his Chiron and now Saturn, the real financial pain was felt. Since Jupiter is sitting there too, in his second house, at 17 degrees of Aquarius, and now running over it to Saturn, you can expect his money troubles to grow even as he continues to out earn himself. This is a bad year to divest real estate holdings, and it is just too bad he can’t get the banks to modify the terms of his loans. With Pluto riding in his first house running over his planet of commerce Mercury, he most likely is going to have to reorganize his debts through bankruptcy

Whether or not he will recover against his former money manager is doubtful. Again the issue is transiting Jupiter sitting with his natal Venus/Saturn combo challenging Natal Neptune. He may be looking for Justice, but what the courts may find is that Nicolas Cage is the victim more of a contracting economy more than anything else, just like the rest of us. If he recovers anything at all, he will recover just a small portion of what he is asking.

November Monthly Astrology Forecast: The Genie Out of The Bottle

genieThis month the Saturn/Uranus opposition breaks up as Saturn speeds through the first round of its seven-year sojourn through Libra and Uranus retrogrades back a pace in the sign of Pisces. This would lend a sense of relief except that Mars in Leo comes up to oppose Neptune and Jupiter in the independent minded sign of Aquarius and the planet of warfare challenges the secretive Sun in Scorpio much of the month.

Early November (the second to be precise) sets a bad tone for fixed signs, Taurus, Leo, Scorpio and Aquarius, for the month as a Grand cross in this modality has them saying and doing things that annoy people mightily. Of course it doesn’t help that they are feeling perpetually annoyed themselves since nothing is working out for them. This is the month to have plan A, plan B and plan C on the boards, as you are going to need all of them just to make it through the month.

Venus heads into sexy Scorpio after the first week revving up romantic visions of hot sweaty nights by the fireplace or corning the coworker with the come hither look in the broom closet.

This whole month plays like a wicked genie has been let out of the bottle. Getting through the month sanely is going to be quite a feat. You might want to keep your psychiatrist and your lawyer on speed dial just in case.

buttonariesBig dreams and big plans drain your bank balance at a rapid clip. There is nothing wrong with living large, but you do have to have wherewithal so that you don’t do without down the road. This may be the time to put finances in the hands of trusted partner so you can concentrate on making big things happen. No fair gripping though when your partner tells you that sadly, no, there is no money for the latest toy you just have to have. Avoid fights over money, which just doesn’t lend itself to sweet make-up sessions after the blow up.
taurus-buttomNormally you are a quiet person, so why this month do you feel the need to take a stand and speak your mind? Don’t do it! The first part of November has never been your cup of tea anyway. If you look back on some of you less sterling moments you’ll find a good portion of them are at this time that is the low part of your yearly cycle. Spend as much time in meditation as your busy schedule allows and do indulge in things that soothe your body as well as your mind. Curb your expenses so that you can have that nice Christmas you so richly deserve.
gemini-buttonIt may come as a shock to you, Gemini, but not everyone has your best interests at heart. Though your magical mental alchemy may enchant and delight, it does not necessarily endear you to others who may consider you charming but somewhat of a lightweight. This month, you get a glimpse of what other people really think about you, and this is unsettling to say the least. Avoid the urge to snap back in kind. You’ll have the tendency to overboard there, and really have egg on your face then.
cancer-button1Those in authority may make big demands on your time, causing you some mental angst. With things all cozy at home you are itching to spend some quality time with your nearest and dearest. However, don’t let your desires override your sense of responsibility. Buck up, Chipper and get that work done so you can spend some stress free time with your loved ones over the coming holidays.
buttonleoIf you could only see your chart right now! It looks like one of those geometric doodles you do on your pad during boring meeting at work, going over and over the same lines for added emphasis. Your chart this month is dominated by a t-square between the planet of action in your own sign, in tension aspect the Jupiter/ Neptune combo that’s been plaguing you all year, which is in turn in challenge aspect to the Sun and Mercury in Scorpio. Relationships are tense as you desire to make some forward movement and other people are in a holding pattern. If you push too hard, you can end up blowing it for good, so take a deep breath and count to ten before you say something you’ll really regret.
buttonvirgo1Just because everyone else is fighting, it doesn’t mean you have to get involved too. This would be an excellent time to practice neutrality in the personal arena, as other people will expect you to take sides or act as a go between for their own vicious battles. If you manage to navigate both sides of the fence, you’ll get to hear a lot of delicious secrets on both sides of the battle line/ though what you won’t hear is what they think about you as well. Good thing, because though you normally have a measured approach to life in general this month you could go a little overboard yourself. Practice patience.
buttonlibraWith the planet of duties and responsibilities just crossing over your sign for a seven-year long sojourn you’ve yet to feel the impact that this will have on you. You manage to keep things light and social, though all around you, people are in some sort of battle. This is an excellent time for social and business networking to build up your contact list. Explore social media on the web. If you haven’t yet, set up your Facebook and Twitter accounts and learn the joys of electronic communication which right now comes naturally to you.
buttonscorpioCould you feel any more restless? I don’t think so. You are so done with everything that happened in the past year, yet you have the same circumstances to deal with over and over again, like a bad rendition of the movie “Groundhog’s Day.” Nothing you do meets with anyone’s approval, thought the things people in authority want you to do doesn’t make sense. Friends want you to do wild things with them that you know in your heart of hearts isn’t the best use of your time, yet you risk alienating them if you don’t. It’s a delicate situation, one that needs some finesse. Look deep inside yourself for the answers to your dilemmas.
buttonsagittariusI am going to issue you a stiff warning, and for once Sag, you should listen to it. You’ve been energetic and applying yourself to steadily to the task at hand. Now you see some ways to utilize some short cuts, but don’t! It may look like you’ve pulled it off, but the only thing that you accomplished was giving someone else ammunition to use against you at a future time. What I said about Gemini, goes for you as well, not everyone is interested in protecting your interests. That you must do, and the best way to do it this month is to keep working in a steady and measured pace and resist the urge to speed on life’s highways.
buttoncapricornWhat looks like a golden opportunity is just a temptation to go over board. Ol’ Beelzebub has more than a passing acquaintance with some of the things that make your eyes glitter, and this month you are especially vulnerable to seductive lures that take you down the wrong path. Beware of arrogance, overconfidence and ignoring the advice of your friends. In other words, check that ego at the door and pick up the ticket at the end of the month!
buttonaquariusNo matter what you do you seem to draw criticisms and conflicts. It’s not that you’ve changed, but rather other people seem to perceive a chip sitting on your shoulder. In addition other people seem to want to tell you every secret that they have drawing you into their nasty business. It doesn’t help that the stars prod you to rise to the bait. This month you should practice a circumspect demeanor, patience and keeping your nose in your own business. Think of this month as a character building exercise.
buttonpiscesAffairs of the heart occupy your mind this month. Someone interesting crosses your path, making your heart race and kicking your active imagination into overdrive. Like a teenager you obsess over every glance, every word, and heavens forbid, a stray touch. Is this the one you’ve always waited for? Is this one that will love you completely? No. This is one situation where fools rush in where angels fear to tread. The person that crosses your path could just end up a passing fancy, hardly what passionate Pisces desires.
